    Apprenticeships

Apprenticeship is a combination of on-the-job training under the supervision of a qualified tradesperson and classroom learning for specific trades. These trades require highly skilled individuals, and this is why you get to learn (and get paid) while you train!

Apprentices spend on an average 80% of their time ‘on- the- job’ learning and the other 20% in the classroom. The classroom aspect involves technical training usually provided through a post-secondary training establishment, such as a college or union-approved training facility.

CONTACT Employment Services is here to help Employers pursue hiring, registering and training an apprentice! Please contact us to learn more about the process and eligibility requirements for all programs.

Financial Incentives for Employers Hiring and Registering Apprentices

    Apprenticeship Employer Signing Bonus (AESB)
A $2,000 (AESB) is available to employers who hire, register, and train an apprentice. To be eligible the employer must register the apprentice in a placement.

AI is a grant program offering up to $4,000 to eligible employers when apprentices meet training and certification milestones:

    • $1,000 for each in-class training level done by the apprentice to a maximum of 3 levels
    •  $1,000 when the apprentice achieves the highest certification level in their trade, i.e. Certificate of Apprenticeship / Qualification

    Federal Employer Supports
Employers may also be eligible for money from the federal government. The Apprenticeship Training Tax Credit is up to $10,000 per qualifying apprentice per taxation year for 48 months. This is a tax savings of $40,000 per apprentice.

We can’t wait to help YOU hire and register the apprectices you need!

      Canada-Ontario Job Grant

Canada-Ontario Job Grant (COJG) provides opportunities for employers, individually or in groups, to invest in their workforce, with help from the government.

The Canada-Ontario Job Grant provides direct financial support to individual employers or employer consortia who wish to purchase training for their employees. It is available to small, medium and large businesses with a plan to deliver short-term training to existing and new employees.

      • Employers can get up to $10,000 in government support per person for training costs.
      • Small employers with less than 100 employees need to contribute 1/6 of training costs.
      • Employers with 100 or more employees need to contribute 1/2 of the training costs.
      • The training must be delivered by an eligible, third-party trainer.
      • For employer groups who want to apply for training supports, the government offers a COJG Consortium Stream. The Consortium Stream allows a group of employers (two or more employers) to pool their resources to support common training objectives and goals.

If you’re an employer with a particular skills demand, the Canada-Ontario Job Grant might be right for you. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.

Please feel free to reach out to determine your suitability. Referral services to other service providers are also available in case of shortage of available funds.

Currently, only applications where the training process is complete by March 31, 2023 are being accepted.
