People In Transition (Alliston) Inc., “My Sister’s Place” is a women-centered, non-profit agency which provides 24 hour emergency shelter, crisis counseling, outreach and transitional support services to abused women and their children. We are committed to providing these services within a feminist, anti-racism/anti-oppressive framework. The workplace is unionized. The relief women’s program counsellor/advocate is required to be available on an on-call basis (weekdays and weekends) for shift coverage on day, evening, and overnight shifts for the women’s program. Shelter services includes the delivery of 24 hour a day, 7 day a week, emergency shelter services and crisis phone services to abused women and their children. The goal for this counsellor/advocate is to provide women with an understanding of empowerment, while encouraging them to make informed decisions about their lives, their children and their family situation.

Qualifications:
• Post secondary degree/diploma in a related field, or a combination of education and experience in anti-violence work with women and children • Excellent knowledge of feminist, anti-oppression philosophy • Crisis intervention, counselling and advocacy skills framed within an empowerment, client-centered model • Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment • Ability to take direction from, and work cooperatively with management team • Ability to meet reporting requirements within set timelines • Computer skills, including Microsoft Word, internet familiarity and database systems reporting a strong asset
